A healthy set of gums and teeth and gums is very important. It makes it easy for you to eat well and enjoy your meals. Good teeth make it very easy for you to eat well and enjoy your meals while you are eating. There are several issues that can affect your health and that of your mouth. Taking great care of your mouth and practicing regular oral hygiene will ensure your teeth and gums stay healthy and strong.

Tooth decay

Your teeth are covered with enamel, which is a strong outer coating. Even when you do not realise it, there is a thin film of bacteria that builds up on your teeth every day.  The bacterium produces acid which is very dangerous to the enamel.  It is the major cause of cavities. Daily flossing and brushing can prevent your teeth from decaying but once the cavity is formed, you have to go to a dentist for a fix.  Ensure you use fluoride toothpaste for protection against any form of tooth decay.  If you have dental issues like a dry mouth you will need lots of fluoride to take out that plaque.

When the plaque builds up on your gum line, it causes major infections and hurts the gum in the long run. Eventually; the bone that holds you tooth in place will be affected.  You will also get gum disease which causes bleeding by making your gums tender.  This issue is famously known as gingivitis. You can fix it by simply flossing and brushing your teeth every day.  You also have the chances of getting a server gum disease called periodontitis.  Unlike gingivitis, it can only be treated if you visit a dentist. 

Mouth care

To prevent gum disease you should brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily and eat a well balanced diet.  You should also quit smoking and visit your dentist daily for regular checkups. 

How should you clean your teeth?

There is a right and wrong way of brushing your teeth. You should brush your teeth gently and avoid using excessive force. Use a soft bristle with circular motions to avoid any form of bleeding on the gums. Always brush gently along your gum line to remove all the plaque.  Do not forget to lightly brush your tongue and clean around your teeth to keep your mouth super clean. Flossing your teeth removes leftover food and plaque between your teeth. Also, make sure you rinse after you floss your teeth.

If you have a condition that limits you from cleaning your teeth properly, there are several things you can do. For one, you can use an electric operated toothbrush.  Bicycle grip and foam tube will help you handle the toothbrush if you have shaky hands.  If you have issues like breakage, dry mouth, tooth pain and oral cancer symptom, you should visit the dentist immediately.  Fixing your tooth issues as soon as you get the first sign is the best thing you can do for your oral health.
